Taffy: Hoan-gêng lí lâi. Lí thâu-chêng siá chi̍t-kù "...Tâi-gí m̄ hó". Che èng-kai sī "Tâi-gí hó" chiah tio̍h. What happens is that the Mandarin 不 (bù) translates as either or (無) depending on context. To negate an "adjective" (or stative verb) such as , one would use (e.g. bô súi "not pretty", bô khiáu "not smart"). Ordinary verbs, on the other hand, seem to be negated with (e.g. m̄ chai "(do/does) not know", m̄ cháu "not willing to leave"). The latter example suggests a degree of unwillingness to perform a certain action. e.g. Góa m̄ "I won't/wouldn't (do something)". Anyway, my 2 Old Taiwan Dollars.
