En la parte superior aparece el Sol y dentro de él una planta de caña de azúcar. El Sol simboliza el clima tropical que goza el municipio y la caña de azúcar representa la actividad agrícola. Debajo aparece una figura dividida en Tres partes, encontrándose en la parte superior izquierda la imagen del Dr. Juan Manuel Cajigal símbolo de las raíces que unen al municipio con la época de la independencia. En la parte superior derecha nos encontramos con un bohío y un indígena en homenaje a los primeros habitantes en la fundación de Yaguaraparo, los indios Guaraúnos. Y en la parte restante se observa una representación del Golfo, en recordación de la penetración europea y de la utilidad que brindó como vía de comunicación con las Islas del Caribe.

Otros símbolos que también nos encontramos en el escudo son:

Una espada: Conmemora la Batalla de Yaguaraparo, librada el 2 de septiembre de 1816.

Una Desjarretadera: Herramienta cortante usada en las cosechas de cacao.

Un Ramal de café: Significa la fertilidad del suelo.

Un Ramal de Palmera: Alude al significado de la palabra que da nombre al pueblo.

El Cuerno y El Cacao: Se refieren a la abundancia y la producción agrícola.

El Tricolor Nacional: Son emblemas de la soberanía e independencia.
