Tâi-oân-lâng (台員人[1]) sī Tâi-oân ê chi̍t-ê cho̍k-kûn. Ū-ê tiûⁿ-ha̍p hō in Tâi-gí-lâng[2], chiàu-jī ê ì-sù sī "kóng Tâi-gí ê lâng". Koh ū chi̍t khoán tùi Kheh-ōe chioh--lâi ê kóng-hoat sī (Tâi-oân ê) Hō-ló-lâng.

Nā Tâi-oân-lâng[3] chit-ê hō-miâ lâi kóng, ū lâng siá Hàn-jī ê sî te̍k-pia̍t kéng "員" (oân), kì 台員人 ia̍h 大員人, che sī ín kin-á-ji̍t Tâi-lâm tē-hng kì tī chi̍t kóa kó͘ bûn-su tang-tiong ê miâ "Tāi-oân" (大員), lâi chhù-lí chit-má sè-sio̍k "Tâi-oân" (台灣) chit jī sī piáu-sī kui-ê to cho̍k-kûn khiā-khí só͘-chāi ê pōe-kéng.

Koan-hē chit khoán hō-miâ ê gī-lūn, mā ū chi̍t khoán siat-sióng sī Tâi-oân chiòng cho̍k-kûn kò-pia̍t ēng ka-tī giân-gí ê ho͘-im ia̍h tàu-jī piáu-hiān, kóng Tâi-gí--ê sī Tâi-oân-lâng, kóng Kheh-gí--ê hō Thòi-vân-ngìn[4].
